Queens Hotel Cefn Mawr LL14 3BD - Telephone 01978 469 889
The Queens Hotel built in the 1820's is the only hotel in Cefn Mawr and the surrounding villages of the Cefn. It remains one of the favourite places with the locals of Cefn. The Plas Kynaston Canal once terminated at the rear of the Queens Hotel and was connected to the Plas Kynaston Colliery by the Plas Kynaston horse drawn narrow gauge railway which ran through a short tunnel under the Queens Hotel on its way to the colliery. Although this is currently closed off to the general public, it is hoped it can be reopened when the Plas Kynaston Canal is restored to the rear of the Queens Hotel, terminating in a 60 berth marina.
The 1873 Ordnance Survey Edition shows the termination of the canal extended by the Plas Kynaston Railway leading through a short tunnel under the Queens Hotel in Cefn Mawr. This horse drawn railway line linked the Plas Kynaston Canal to the Plas Kynaston Colliery on the far side of the Plas Kynaston Hall.
