The PKC Group Supports Sustrans and shares their Vision:

Sustrans makes smarter travel choices available and possible and are a leading UK charity enabling people to travel by foot, bike or public transport for more of the journeys made every day. They work with families, communities, policymakers and organisations so that people can choose healthier, cleaner and cheaper journeys, with better places and spaces to move through and live in.

Vision for Wales:

Sustrans Cymru aims to help Wales tackle the problems of climate change and obesity through developing practical and innovative projects. They seek to support and challenge partners to empower people to change their travel behaviour. Over three generations transport policy has been characterised by:

  1. A growth in car-ownership
  2. Increased congestion in urban areas
  3. A rise in carbon emissions
  4. A decline in levels of walking and cycling

A rise in sedentary lifestyles leading to a rise in obesity and weight related health problems. Sustrans aims to bring about a cultural change, re-ordering the transport hierarchy in favour of pedestrians and cyclists. We wish to see the vast majority of daily journeys taken by sustainable transport, with walking and cycling seen as the obvious first choice for short local trips. Extending the National Cycle Network to every community is necessary, but not sufficient.

Evidence and experience tells us that it is necessary to ally changes to the physical environment that encourage journeys by foot and bicycle with information and motivation programmes.

Over the next five years Sustrans Cymru will:

  1. Promote a complementary package of practical interventions to bring about travel behaviour change.
  2. Work with a growing number of partners to deliver practical projects
  3. Draw upon our experience to press for changes in policy and practice

PKC Vision for Pontcysyllte World Heritage Site Corridor:

The PKC group would like to see many of the footpaths, cycle ways and bridal ways that are within the area cleared and upgraded to provide a viable and environmentally friendly alternative to the congested road network. These routes would link Cefn Mawr and Surrounding Villages including Penycae and Ruabon at the centre of the (WHS) World Heritage Site to the other main centres within the WHS, Llangollen and Chirk and promote the area as a whole.
